At Christmas time, many of us will be reminded of how wonderful it can be to give your time and resources to help those in need.
While we’re getting ready to start giving to our loved ones, many people may feel that they also want to do the same for those less fortunate.
In Cumbria, there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer and give a little something back to your local community this Christmas (and all year round) and at Corrie & Co we’re proud to be able to help during this season of giving.
Wrap Up Your Town
At Corrie & Co, we are giving donated coats to the homeless, helping them to stay warm at this particularly cold time of year.
If you would like to get involved in this worthy cause, we will be accepting donations of old and unwanted coats in our offices in Barrow, Millom and Ulverston.
All you have to do is pop in with your donation and place it in the containers provided.
Furness Homeless Support Group
Christmas can be a difficult time for the homeless – cold and long nights, as well as feelings of loneliness, can be tough to deal with.
Furness Homeless Support Group is there to help provide support and basic needs for homeless people in the Barrow area. Over the Christmas period, they will often take on extra volunteers to help in the kitchens, providing hot meals to those who need them most.
For more information, call 01229 821134.
Age UK is a charity that seeks to support the elderly, whether that be teaching skills to enable independence, or combatting loneliness with befriending services.
In Cumbria, there are many volunteering opportunities available, so you can help to make a difference this Christmas.
You may have a skill that you could share, such as basic ICT skills, or perhaps you could drive a minibus to transport older people. You may even just be a friendly face that could brighten up the day of an older person struggling with loneliness.
If you are interested in donating your time to Age UK this Christmas, you can find out more by calling 08443 843 843.
Cumbria County Council
The County Council offers several volunteering opportunities. This can include anything from being a community volunteer for the fire service, conducting home safety visits and educational visits, to being a ‘snow champion’, helping to keep roads and pavements clear of snow and ice.
There are so many ways in which you can volunteer for Cumbria County Council over the festive season – find out more here.
At Corrie & Co, we are excited to give something back to the community this Christmas through our ‘Wrap Up Your Town’ campaign.
If you would like to find out more about this initiative, or if you would like to donate a coat to the cause, please do pop into one of our offices, or contact us by giving us a call on 01229 825333 (Barrow), 01229 355333 (Millom) or 01229 525333 (Ulverston), and we’ll be happy to tell you more.
